Amazon just rolled out a new feature that has everyone in the seller community talking: digital coupons. How will Amazon sellers be using these? That remains to be seen with time, but today, I want to share the basics of the new coupon feature for Amazon sellers.

What are digital coupons on Amazon?
Digital coupons are discounts offered on product listings that allow customers to “clip” them to instantly add the discount to the item. When they place the item in their cart and check out, the discount is applied to their order total.
How will customers see coupon offers?
In search results, customers will see an orange banner (similar to the Best Seller badge) above the price that indicates the discount amount.
On the product page, they will see a green button that they can click to “clip” the coupon, along with a link for coupon details next to it. When they clip a coupon, they will see this: “$X extra savings coupon will be applied at purchase.”
The coupon landing page allows customers to browse by the overall most popular coupons or by category. They can also sort by most popular, newest, oldest, expiring soon, and discount percentage.
The gold box deals page has a link on the side menu as well as a section for coupons.
How do I create a coupon offer in Amazon Seller Central?
It’s pretty simple to get started:
- Go to the Advertising tab in Seller Central.
- Choose your products.
- Enter how much of a discount you want to offer (in dollar amount or percentage terms). The discount must be between 5% and 80% of the lowest price you have offered on the product in the last 30 days.
- Set your budget.
- Give your coupon a title.
- Schedule how long you’d like the coupon to run. This can be between 1-90 days, and must start at least 3 days from today.
- If desired, you can also limit the audience of your coupon to one of the following customer segments: Prime members, Amazon Student members, Amazon Mom members, Customers who have viewed certain ASINs, and customers who have purchased certain ASINs.
How does the coupon budget work?
When creating a coupon, you will need to set a maximum budget that you do not wish to exceed. This budget is used for the Coupon Referral Fee of $0.60 per coupon PLUS the dollar amount of discounts on the items sold. For example, if you have a $20 item and offer a $5 coupon, your budget will deplete by $5.60 for each item sold. Once the budget is depleted (or the coupon time frame expires), the coupon will be deactivated.
The $0.60 Coupon Referral Fee is only deducted once checkout is completed. You will not be charged if a customer “clips” the coupon but doesn’t check out
